Frequently asked questions

How does the report card work?

To start, you give us the name that you want to search for. Usually this will be your name, but it doesn’t have to be.

Our system then does an online search for that name and we analyze the results that come back.

By looking at which results appear and how prominently, we are able to assign you a grade.

What name should I enter into the report card?

Enter the name that you want us to look for in the way that people usually search it.

For example, if your name is Jonathan Smith but everyone calls you Jon, you probably want to enter “Jon Smith.”

If you have a common name, you may also want to add some other bits of clarifying information, such as your profession or your city.

For example, “Jon Smith Dentist Minneapolis.”

What should I click when it asks me “Good”, “Bad”, or “Indifferent”?

Good – Select if you are happy that this search result is associated with your name.

Bad – Select if you wish this search result didn’t show up.

Indifferent – Select if you don’t care one way or the other about the search result.

Why is my report card showing results about someone other than me?

The report card is based on a name, not a person. If there are other people with the same name as you, their results may appear when people search for you online.

Is this good or bad? It depends on how you feel about it.

If you’re happy that results about someone else appear, mark them “Good.” If not, mark them “Bad.” If you don’t really care one way or the other, choose “Indifferent.”

Does this work outside of the US?

Yes, the current report card works in the US and the UK. Other countries are in development.

What factors affect my report card score?

There are certain types of websites that are usually good or bad, so when those appear in a search for your name, we automatically score them.

However, some aspects of reputation are “in the eye of the beholder.” That’s why we ask you to score some results yourself.

If you mark those results “Bad,” they will decrease your grade. If you mark them “Good,” they will increase it.

How can I improve my online reputation?

It depends on the nature of what is showing up online. Give us a call at 877-492-8250 and we’ll be happy to give you free advice.

If you prefer a self-help option, you can also use the free guides and resources below to get started.

Are you creating these search results?

No. The search results we return are created by other people and companies. All we do is look online to see which pre-existing results are associated with your name.
